OGDC Welcomes 52 Women To Second Management Trainee Batch

OGDC welcomed 52 female graduates into the second batch of its Management Trainee Officers Programme 2026-27. The recruits come from diverse academic backgrounds and institutions across Pakistan.

The company held a welcoming ceremony at its Oil & Gas Training Institute in Islamabad. The 52-week programme combines classroom learning with practical placements and mentorship.

According to Biz Today’s report, the initiative aims to increase women’s participation in the energy sector. OGDC describes it as part of its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

OGDC Links Training To Female Representation

Managing director and chief executive Ahmed Hayat Lak welcomed the new management trainees at the ceremony. Lak said greater female representation should become a sustainable part of the organisation.

“We want more women in our company to make our work environment more diverse and inclusive,” Lak said. The initiative gives the graduates a structured route into technical and professional development.

The company’s stated emphasis on representation connects with wider workplace coverage. Readers can explore related reporting on workplaces for women.

Lak said the trainees would contribute to the company’s growth while developing skills supporting Pakistan’s energy security. The chief executive also outlined a production ambition.

“We have a target to double our production in the next three years,” Lak said. OGDC would continue optimising production from mature assets and contributing to import substitution, according to Lak.

Programme Combines Classroom And Field Work

The training schedule includes on-the-job learning, field visits and departmental placements alongside classroom instruction. Mentorship also forms part of the programme’s 52-week structure.

The company says the training will provide a broad understanding of its operations and the oil and gas value chain. It also addresses opportunities and challenges facing the sector.

Executive director for human resources Shahzad Safdar said the second programme incorporated lessons from the first batch. Safdar described the revised training as more comprehensive.

“This is a different and more comprehensive training programme. We wanted to develop a programme that would fully prepare MTOs for their professional careers,” Safdar said.

Professional support is also the subject of related coverage on women returning to work. The OGDC programme focuses on young graduates preparing for energy-sector careers.

Second Batch Follows July 2025 Intake

Safdar said the company deliberately chose to increase female representation. “We chose to move beyond our comfort zone and establish a dedicated all-female management training programme,” Safdar said.

The first-ever all-female batch included 36 management trainee officers inducted in July 2025. Members of that group shared their experiences at the welcoming ceremony.

Those trainees appreciated opportunities to gain practical insights into the oil and gas industry. Further reading on professional networks includes networks and digital skills.

The second batch will undergo structured technical and professional development throughout the year. OGDC’s technical and soft-skills teams will support that work as the graduates prepare for careers in Pakistan’s energy sector.
