If you are working in the tech industry then you’ve probably already been the only woman in the roomDespite the many efforts, studies have demonstrated that women still make up only 26.7% of tech-related jobsBut according to Danielle Phaneuf, Cloud and Digital Strategy Leader at PwC, there are a few positives to being the only woman in the room

Bring a different perspective to the table

By being the only woman in the room you will be able to bring a unique perspective to the table. Nowadays most people consider inclusion and diversity as fundamental for business success and 85% of CEOs with companies with this type of environment said that having people from different backgrounds and cultures has enhanced the performance of their business

People won’t forget you

Another good point to keep in mind is that if you’re the only woman in the room people will most likely remember you. This will make it easier for you to start follow-up conversations and build your network.

Be the first one to make a change

Even though Danielle Phaneuf has found a way to turn this situation to her advantage she still hopes that in the future no woman will ever have to face this situation. ‘We need women from all backgrounds in the room where decisions are made. Without these critical perspectives, businesses won’t see the results they need and expect,’ said Danielle.

For this reason, she invites every woman who has been in this position to support women’s networking and connectivity events.
